Traditional Shepherd's Huts

Our Traditional Shepherd's Huts Little are crafted to traditional designs, and are kitted out with everything you need to make your stay comfortable.

On arrival, cross the courtyard to Kingshill Barn, where our team will be waiting to welcome you. You will be given a map and directions to your accommodation.

If you are arriving past 7pm, our team may not be on site to greet you. Instead, we will issue you a Self Check-in email with details on how to find your accommodation. Your key will be left in your hut along with fresh milk for tea and coffee. Use the 'What 3 words' below to find your hut:

Please use the map and our self help guides for further information. Our team will be available onsite from 8am-7pm should you have any questions or want to come and say hello.

With dramatic East-facing views across the reserve, Samphire and Little Owl instill a sense of wild wonder in their guests. Relax outside with the fire-pit burning, and take in the wonderful sound of life on the Reserve.

All taps on-site provide potable drinking water, including those in your hut. We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle.

In your hut you'll find breakfast tea and freshly ground coffee. Please ask for fresh milk (dairy or oat) at check-in. A traditional kettle can be found on the gas stove in the camp kitchen behind the huts.

The simple (no-electricity) camp kitchen is shared between Little Owl and Samphire. It has a gas stove and a sink. All crockery, glassware and cutlery is provided. Each hut has a separate set of utensils stored underneath the bed, and a cool box in the camp kitchen. We ask that you leave the camp kitchen as you would wish to find it

Of course, if you'd prefer to fully switch of you can leave the cooking to us! Explore our Food and Drink options here.

The ensuite hot shower and loo are inside the hut. Towels and robes are provided. We also provide gorgeous natural products by VERDEN, in full size bottles for you to use and enjoy throughout your stay.

The wood-burning stove is a very effective heater! There is a hot plate on top for boiling the kettle or warming pots. The vent at the bottom of the wood-burner can be used to control the intensity of the fire - open = hotter! You will only want it on low, it does get toasty. Please do ask one of the team if you need a hand.

The fire will be laid for your arrival, please do let us know if you are arriving late and we can light it for you.

Outside there is a fire pit for evenings spent star-gazing and toasting marshmallows. Complimentary marshmallows can be found in your hut, and firewood, matches and firelighters can be found beneath the stove. If you need a firewood top up, you can purchase more from Reception for £15.

All of our huts and cabins are designed with year round use in mind. The hut has a 75mm insulated cavity throughout, and Earthwool insulation. This is a breathable carbon-neutral material made from 80% recycled bottles. With the wood burner, Romney Marsh Wool blankets and hot water bottles, we’re sure you will be warm and cosy, even on the chilliest of nights.

Please remove muddy boots before entering. Boot brushes are on the steps, and they will stay dry under shelter outside of the hut. There are hooks to dry out wet clothes. If you get soaked in a rain storm our team can dry wet clothes for you!

A unique aspect of Elmley is that we are off grid, so generate our own electricity. Our Traditional Huts have 12V power so there are no plug sockets, but you are welcome to charge your phones in the Linhay. There is a LED lantern in the hut for lighting your way. The lights above the bed are touch sensitive, just make sure the switch on the wall by the door is on first.

4G can be picked up across the reserve, but we do recommend you switch off and soak up the nature around you.

If you need wi-fi it can be accessed from the Linhay or from Reception, please speak to the team for assistance.

Little Owl and Samphire are crafted to a traditional design so the spaces are rather bijou. There is storage space under the bed and hooks in the hut, but please do ask our team if you need to store large bags.
