King Charles III England Coast Path

We're pleased to share that the new King Charles III England Coast Path is now officially open on the Isle of Sheppey, and part of the path runs through Elmley Nature Reserve.

This long distance walking route is part of a national trail that will eventually encircle the entire English coastline. The Sheppey section of the path offers walkers the chance to experience the island's wild beauty, dramatic skies and rich wildlife.

The path follows Elmley's existing footpaths and is clearly marked with yellow roundels. Restored to nature 40 years ago, you'll find yourself immersed in vast meadows, salt marshes, and sweeping views across the estuary. Our careful stewardship has made Elmley one of the UK’s most important sites for wildlife. A haven for migrating birds.

Please note that dogs are not permitted on this section of the route, due to sensitive wildlife habitats.

Route Details

  • The coastal path currently runs clockwise from Leysdown to Oak Lane, Minster
  • There is also a link route from Swale Station, via the Kingsferry Bridge
